I would highly recommend this show! The kids in our party (first-time theatregoers) loved the whole experience so much that their parents booked their next trip that evening. The week before last’s blog was a personal “wish list” of things that make the only form of theatre that I take deadly seriously, special. Firm hand on the script, but always letting the performers shine. Lesley Garrett is a flying fairy godmother with a long line of opera allusions lost to most of the children.

Add the personalising quirks for the stars, the vital jokes of all kinds (the obligatory topical Royal Wedding one being nicely near-the-knuckle but still clean) and proper rhyming opening, closing Social Monkey. Import from Hackney Empire Clive Rowe (Dame Trot) really needs no introduction.

Exactly as it should be.

There might have been a couple of fluffed lines but because everything else, the dancing, choreography etc was so good we could forgive it. God-daughter and American Pussycat Doll turned panto newcomer Melody Thornton is granted her panto-licence by the monkey for totally smashing her debut. Lovely theatre. The latter runs in her family, with Ugly Sister off-spring Verruca and Hernia (Leon Craig and Bobby Delaney) having decently outrageous gear and good lines to match for the small scenes they were used in. Wimbledon theatre is a thriving industry, with the area giving home to the eighth-largest theatre in London: The New Wimbledon Theatre.

He can add Panto Leading Boy to the list.

Went to the new Wimbledon theatre to see the Gloria Estefan story! After an appropriately seasonal haunting with “The Woman In White” at the Charing Cross Theatre (see it), Thom Southerland turns up here – and proves again what a ‘no nonsense’ director he is. This is local panto at its finest. It was lovely to meet you (and your parents)! The show was amazing, the cast fabulous!

The singing was amazing especially Jade, and the show was entertaining. A lovely duet with his teddy bear also stopped the show in the second half and his shared writing credit (with Alan McHugh) should be noted to his talents. Theatre Closures Update / Refund Information.

The Palladium show of 2016 in fact has a lot to do with this one – those who saw it will recognise a fair bit of material, but almost enough has changed to personalise it to the star team of 2019. Gooch makes her Apricot a peach. Theatremonkey is an Affiliate Member of STAR.

The marquee name this year is Al “Pub Landlord” Murray, and I can only say that it was a real pleasure to be there and witness him lose his “panto cherry” (but find an apple – “in” joke, cough up for a ticket). That itself is worthy of mention. December 13, 2017 . ‘Cinderella’ was the first panto the monkey saw at Wimbledon, back in 2014.
A measure of how good it all is: first, a – well, the – reader of this blog was at the same performance. Sorry, your blog cannot share posts by email. The venue is quite small but nice and cosy! WE have seen many West End productions and whilst this show was okay it wasn't up to that standard. With Fleshcreep (revoltingly scary to go with the other bit of his name, John Jack) the pair had the difficult task of opening proceedings, and managed to bond with the audience enough to make the next opening choral number go with a swing. Went to the new Wimbledon theatre to see the Gloria Estefan story! I am a great fan of Fiddler and I felt this was one of the best productions I have seen. In addition, the Studio at New Wimbledon Theatre is a 50-80 seat black box theatre, founded in 1994 in a ballroom where legend has it Fred & Adele Astaire once danced. They are a talented bunch and I was just amazed at how they did it all!I realized how ignorant I was as classic songs that I often him to myself flew off the stage and I had not known they had come from this musical, for example: If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker and Sunrise Sunset.I guess my only criticism might be that the darker scenes could have been made even darker as the lighter scenes are light... but it is a fine line between giving an audience an enjoyable and moving experience and just leaving them miserable and depressed at the end... so even then I am not sure it could have made the production any better. My favorites moments in a really great production were:(1) "Tradition" (as it was the opening number and set the tone with all the cast members playing instruments, moving and singing),(2) the Dream Scene (as everyone on stage just looked like they were having a good time and the rising ghost really is fantastic - and a rare time when I enjoyed some mini-opera),(3) negotiations for the first wedding or cow (just lovely comedy and play on words),(4) the excellent dancing at the wedding,(5) and the final (more dark) scenes.Great show - I cannot recommend it enough!
