Within the first few pages, I was hooked. The only downside is that the collection is quite short in length and I would have loved to have read more. So here are my thoughts…. I felt like my heart was ripped from my chest and exposed to the world with all of these.

These are poems that really came together and spoke well as a voice. After completing his degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, he published his first poetry collection, “my rosy innocent definition of love became twisted untrusting fragile when you left”, “my friend’s downcast eyes whisper how on earth did you survive?”. I've not read much short, Rupi Kaur-esque poetry, but I've found that it often varies hugely in its style and, most importantly, its skill. Aaaaargh! Welcome back. Sam's poetic style is eerily similar to mine, so I could relate to the heartbreak of a broken relationship and the emotional aftermaths. He also performs with his band, The Sam Payne Project, and with his jazz quartet, Savoy. I can’t wait to read more by Sam. I was contacted by Sam and given a copy of the book in exchanged for an honest review. it was a pleasure to finally read through his journey, one that’s obviously so important to him & his growth as a person. Every word is chosen precisely, and yet it doesn't come across in an overtly grand or poetic voice. Read this book in an hour and half and I absolutely loved it, loved everything about it, follow the poet on instagram and know I had to get this book and think it will be a favourite of mine. Sam is a poet and a balladeer, a rare and wonderful type of musician...long live another great ballad writer! And when the storm is over, be ready to let love in again. ‘This Boy is a Rainbow’ will be released January 1st, 2018! this boy is a constellation is a brazenly honest and achingly relatable collection about coming of age and falling in love in the modern world. It needed just that little something to make it perfect.Poetry I'd gladly recommend. The best way to describe this collection is a LGBT+ version of Milk and Honey, So if you love Rupi Kaur you will loveeeeee this collection. Review on my blog this Thursday. I enjoyed this little collection of poetry, and want to thank the author for sharing his feelings of such a hard thing as a breakup and loss through these poems. I met Sam through instagram & he is absolutely lovely, one of the most supportive & kind humans. Plus, this is an LGBTQIA+ poetry collection so that caught my interest quickly.
