The outcome has been one new ARC Future Fellow and eight ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards during 2017–18. Only a dozen or so are actually discovered each year, and some of these are so bright and powerful, they exceed the scale of scientific explanation. The 2018 UWA Excellence in Teaching Awards saw nine winners from ABLE, with Grace Oakley and Kate Offer nominated for the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT). The Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences congratulates Mr David Gozzard, member of The International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) and PhD candidate from UWA’s School of Physics and Astrophysics who was named ExxonMobil Student Scientist of the Year at the 2017 Premier’s Science Awards. This extraordinary event, supported by the City of Perth, was the result of a novel collaboration between the UWA Conservatorium of Music, the WA Alliance to End Homelessness and the Centre for Social Impact.
ICRAR (the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research) has received a $350k Citizen Science Grant to build on the website, Galaxy Explorer, which was developed to enlist the help of Australians to classify galaxies.
